San Diego Flooring Installation & Hardwood Refinishing
- 01 · Preparation: A beautiful floor starts below the surface. We begin with the floor you have: measuring, checking the visible subfloor, and planning the layout before the first plank goes down.
- 02 · Layout: The first line sets the entire room. Pattern, alignment, and transitions are established early so every course has a clear direction.
- 03 · Installation: Plank by plank, the pattern takes shape. The floor grows in sequence—not as one sheet—so the fit and herringbone geometry stay deliberate.
- 04 · Finish: The room comes together from the floor up. Walnut herringbone adds warmth and movement across the finished space.

Material planning
Exploring flooring before the estimate?
Compare material categories, request sample help, or start with professional measurement. Availability and pricing are confirmed for the specific product and project.
A low-pressure first step
Get the floor measured before you make the big decisions.
Tell us what you are considering. We will arrange a free in-home estimate to measure, look at the existing conditions, and put the recommended scope in writing.

On the job
Preparation is part of the finished result, not an add-on after something goes wrong.
No cost to schedule
Written, itemized scope
Real work, up close
The details should hold up when you stop and look.
Straight layouts, intentional pattern work, clean transitions, and a finish that reads evenly in natural light. These are photos from completed work and active job sites.

What we can help with
Start with the room. We will help sort out the material.
If you already know exactly what you want, we can discuss the installation. If you do not, we can compare the practical tradeoffs in your home.
Text a floor photoBefore anyone works in your home
Know who is responsible.
Flooring problems often start below the surface. Our structure keeps responsibility with one licensed local company instead of passing it between installers and contractors.

Licensed for flooring
Tidal Flooring holds CSLB C-15 #1002910. Swell Contracting also holds B #970145. Both are easy to verify before you invite us over.
One team stays accountable
If preparation exposes a subfloor or construction issue, you are not left coordinating separate trades. The flooring division is backed by a licensed general contractor.
Scope before work starts
Your estimate puts the planned preparation, materials, labor, and finish in writing. Workmanship warranty terms are included in your agreement.
Local since 2004

What happens next
A clear path from question to written scope.
Show us the floor
Call, text a few photos, or answer three quick questions. Tell us what is there now and what you want to change.
Meet us at home
We measure, inspect the existing surface and subfloor conditions we can see, and talk through the right installation or refinishing approach.
Review the written scope
You receive an itemized estimate before deciding. If you move forward, one team carries the work through the final walkthrough.
“Exceeded our expectations — the care and attention to detail were outstanding.”
“Top notch. They transformed everything — professional beyond belief, on time and on budget.”
“They take the extra step to satisfy customers.”
Straight answers
Questions people ask before the estimate.
Still unsure? Text a photo or call. You do not need to know the flooring terminology first.
Call (858) 336-5581How much does the in-home estimate cost?
Nothing. We come to your home, measure, look at the subfloor and the condition of what is there now, and provide a written, itemized estimate. There is no pressure to decide on the spot.
Should I choose solid or engineered hardwood?
It depends on your subfloor, moisture conditions, and whether you want to refinish in the future. Solid hardwood can be refinished many times; quality engineered wood is more dimensionally stable over concrete or in coastal humidity. We recommend based on the house, not a one-size-fits-all answer.
Can you match new flooring to the wood I already have?
Often, yes. Species, plank width, grade, color, and sheen all affect the match. We can discuss whether a selective tie-in or refinishing the connected areas together will give the more convincing result.
Is dustless refinishing completely dust-free?
No process is 100% dust-free. Dust-containment sanding captures the vast majority of dust at the equipment, creating dramatically less mess than traditional sanding.
Who actually performs the work?
Tidal Flooring is Swell Contracting's flooring division. Your project runs under our C-15 flooring license and is backed by our B general contractor license, with one local company accountable for the work.
Where do you install flooring?
We work across San Diego County, including La Jolla, Del Mar, Encinitas, Coronado, Carlsbad, Rancho Santa Fe, and the surrounding communities. Text your ZIP code if you want to confirm service before scheduling.
