How we de-risk your project
Every signal you'd want to check, in one place.
Hiring a contractor is mostly an exercise in managing risk. Here are the proof points we put on the table up front — so the decision is based on what you can verify, not what we promise.
Licensed by the California CSLB
Two active state licenses — verify both yourself.
Swell Contracting holds an active California General Contractor license (General Contractor (B License), CSLB #970145) and our Tidal Flooring division holds a specialty flooring license (Flooring & Floor Covering (C-15), CSLB #1002910). Both are public record — look us up directly on the California State License Board and confirm we're active, in good standing, and that the names match before you sign anything.
General liability, workers' comp, and a contractor's bond.
We carry general liability and workers' compensation insurance on every job, and we hold a contractor's bond as required by the state. That means the people on your property are covered and you're protected if something goes wrong. We're glad to provide a current certificate of insurance — and add you as a certificate holder — before work begins.
Our work is backed by a written workmanship warranty, and we stand behind what we build. If something we installed isn't right, we come back and make it right. The exact length and terms are spelled out in your project agreement so there's no ambiguity.
Written Scope of Work
You approve exactly what's being built before we start.
Every project gets a detailed written scope before work begins, so you and your team agree on exactly what's being built, with what materials, and on what schedule — no vague handshakes and no surprise change orders. If the scope changes, we put it in writing and you approve it before anything moves forward.
Project Documentation
A record of how your project was actually built.
We document the work as it progresses — including the parts you can't see once it's finished, like subfloor prep, waterproofing, and substrate conditions. You get a record of how your project was built, which protects you at resale and gives the next trade an honest starting point.
One Accountable Team
No subcontractor finger-pointing — one company owns the result.
Because Swell holds both the general contractor (B) and flooring (C-15) licenses in-house, the same accountable team is responsible from first call to final walkthrough. There's no one to point fingers at when the floors meet the framing — it's all us. Lauren Braswell keeps you informed the whole way through, and Ben Braswell stands behind the build.
Financing Options
Ways to spread the cost of larger projects.
Financing may be available to help spread the cost of a larger renovation, and we'll walk you through current options during your consultation so you can plan with real numbers.
Look up both CSLB numbers on the state board. Confirm they're active, in good standing, and that the business name matches.
Step 02
Ask for the paperwork
Request a current certificate of insurance and a written scope of work before you commit. We'd rather earn the job than rush it.
Step 03
Read what others say
See how San Diego homeowners and businesses describe working with us — then call references if you want to dig deeper.
Verify our license
Both licenses are public record with the California State License Board: General Contractor (B License) #970145 and Flooring & Floor Covering (C-15) #1002910.
